“As a result of this journey I have evolved as a mother. I am much more present. I pick my battles. It’s not perfect, but it’s really incredible to see myself evolve because I truly took care of me. It’s made me a much better mom” — Shari D.
Hey mamas, well, there’s a first for everything...I’ve been called lots of things, but when this mother recounted how talking to me was like talking to the Nintendo character Super Mario, getting infused with superpowers in each session — I had a good laugh.
But video game characters aside, that’s what healing looks and feels like — a jolt of mojo, a reawakening and becoming. Yes, you can heal while divorcing and navigating the tough stuff.
Relistening to this interview brought me right back to the first day Shari and I ever spoke when she called me from her car a nervous wreck, like so many mothers who are beginning this divorce process and don’t know what step to take next, who to trust, how to get out.
But it also made me recelebrate the distance we went together with our coaching and all of the transformation that ensued in her life, her kids’ lives and her future.
If you are divorce curious or in the messiness of it all, not feeling confident about where things are going — if you’re trying to figure out how to sneak away and hide in your car so you can find some privacy, I want you to lean in.
Shari’s generosity of spirit is palpable. With humor and self-reflection, she keeps it real and invites you into her journey so that you know it’s available to you too. She pulls back the covers and exposes the raw places.
She shares how she...
Was unhappy and didn’t feel like she was being a good mom
Felt pressured by the opinions of others, even religious dogma and divorce stereotypes
Sorted through the noise, learned to set healthy boundaries, advocate for self and take action
Moved through feelings, grief and learned to trust herself again
Created structure and safety for her kids, and transitioned to a new home
Went from suffocating in an unhealthy marriage to reconnecting to her intuition
Reclaimed her life, rebuilt home and crossed the finish line
All this and so much more. Mama to mama, this too is waiting for you.
Bottom line: Even if there was a long runway to here. You can take big steps in short time that will change everything. The women who invest in themselves move the needle in their divorces and lives.
